About the Workshop
The Open-Source Economics Workshop is an in-person and hybrid program that helps students, researchers, and professionals build essential skills in macroeconomics, policy modeling, and data science. Using powerful open-source tools like Python, R, and DynareJulia, participants will learn how to work with data, build models, and apply them to real-world economic and policy questions.
This year’s workshop will place special emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its growing role in economics and finance. Through hands-on sessions, participants will explore how AI tools — including generative AI and automation — can be used for research, forecasting, and even building AI assistants for everyday analytical work.
The workshop also features advanced content on macroeconomic policy modeling. Participants will work with ideas from the forthcoming Oxford Review of Economic Policy article "Adapting Monetary Policy Frameworks for Risk Management", which introduces innovative approaches like Mixed Complementarity Problems (MCPs) and Endogenous Credibility (ENDOCRED) models for handling challenges such as the effective lower bound and policy uncertainty.
Building on the success of past summer schools in Portugal and Armenia, this program offers not only expert teaching but also a chance to join a growing global community of economists, central bankers, and researchers working at the frontier of applied economics.
